Understanding Waterstops and BoMetal Waterstop Specifications

Waterstop History

To accommodate varying pressure and movement, most thermoplastic and rubber waterstops come in different extruded profiles, widths and thicknesses. For years the most widely used waterstops were those anchored by having a dumbbell shape at each end, creating a ‘cork-in-the-bottle’ seal when the joint opens. However, this seal is less effective at small joint movements and wider movements. To overcome these issues, BoMetals has manufactured profiles with multiple raised ribs to improve anchoring and sealing performance.

Choosing Waterstop Size

Waterstop size (width) is determined by the expected head of water pressure to be encountered at the joint. The general rule of thumb is the larger the size of the waterstop the greater the hydrostatic pressure resisted by the waterstop.

Typical Structures Requiring Waterstops Include:

Dams, locks, canals, water reserves and aqueducts

Water and wastewater treatment facilities

Primary and secondary containment structures

Culverts and tunnels

Storage tanks

Retaining walls

Bridge and deck abutments

Foundations

Slabs-on-grade

Parking garages

PVC Waterstops

BoMetals PVC Waterstop is a conventional waterstop that can be used in a variety of applications. The main usage is to prevent the passage of liquids in concrete joints in many different projects such as Dams, Tunnels, Water & Wastewater Treatment Plants, and other liquid retaining structures.

BoMetals has become one of the American Owned Company leaders in the manufacturing of Waterstop, and we look forward to help you with your current and future projects.

BoMetals categorizes Waterstops by the type of concrete joints they seal. The characteristics of the joint are used to determine the differing demands on the Waterstops and their expected performance.

TPER Waterstops

BoMetals, inc. TPER Waterstops play a critical part in providing a fluid tight diaphragm in secondary and tertiary above and below ground containment facilities. This is accomplished by offering a product for concrete joints that greatly expands its resistance to hot petro-chemicals, solvents, aqueous acids and other chemicals listed as hazardous by the EPA.

BoMetals, inc. manufactures TPER Waterstop from a specially formulated Thermoplastic Vulicanizate which is fully cross-linked compound. This product will assure an owner of a facility that requires containment, for environmentally sensitive materials, a reliable and easy to install product. BoMetals’ TPER Waterstop is available in a wide variety of profiles up to 12 inches wide.
