Things to Consider When Purchasing Diamond Blades

Posted by Arco Contractors Supply on

What Kind of Concrete are you Cutting? Green Concrete or Asphalt These are in the same category because they both have very abrasive qualities. To combat this abrasion and resist premature wear, the blade make-up, also known as the “bond” is designed to resist this wear. Oddly enough, once the concrete is considered “cured”, this abrasive quality is minimized. However, asphalt is always very abrasive at any age.  Cured Concrete – Any Concrete over 48 Hours Old There are blades that are considered “Combo Blades” that work with any of these materials. These are for the contractor that switched often...

OSHA Launches New NEP On Silica

On February 4, 2020, OSHA published an updated National Emphasis Program (NEP) regarding Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS)  OSHA studied over 10 years of data and tens of thousands of air samples for silica. The results were shocking. 14.1% of personal air samples from at-risk work areas registered above the acceptable Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL). After a revised silica rule introduced in October of 2017, OSHA conducted a follow up 1-year study and found that the silica exposure rate for that year was even higher with 17.6% of samples registering above PEL. This increasing rate of non-compliance with existing silica rule...

Understanding Waterstops and BoMetal Waterstop Specifications

Waterstop History To accommodate varying pressure and movement, most thermoplastic and rubber waterstops come in different extruded profiles, widths and thicknesses. For years the most widely used waterstops were those anchored by having a dumbbell shape at each end, creating a ‘cork-in-the-bottle’ seal when the joint opens. However, this seal is less effective at small joint movements and wider movements. To overcome these issues, BoMetals has manufactured profiles with multiple raised ribs to improve anchoring and sealing performance.  Choosing Waterstop Size  Waterstop size (width) is determined by the expected head of water pressure to be encountered at the joint. The...
